The Oberig is the Guardian Angel of the Defenders

From December 5, 2023 till December 26, 2023, the National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress” hosts the exhibition of volunteer oberigs – a joint project of the Public Museum of the Volunteer Movement of Ukraine, Peace Museum in Kyiv and the National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress”.

The collection of the Museum of the Volunteer Movement of Ukraine includes oberigs from different regions of Ukraine. The collection began in 2014 and already has about 300 objects.

After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion the geography of making oberigs has significantly expanded, and now they are sent by our refugees and caring people from different parts of the world – Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Switzerland, Lithuania, Poland.

Exhibitions of oberigs have already taken place in Kyiv museums: the National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress”, the Sixties Museum, the Sholom Aleichem Museum, and also abroad: in the Maison de la Paix (Estaing, France) and in Uppsala (Sweden) this year during the Days of Peace.

Oberigs protect our soldiers in the trenches, embodying faith in peace and a bright future.
