Why, despite the endeavor of peace, wars injure our planet? - we are all reasonable and conscious people. How to restore peace and harmony? We hope that our museum's exposition will help you find answers to these questions. The Peacekeeping Center creates the Museum of Peace as a platform for finding ways to build a peaceful society. We plan to engage the general public to solve the paradoxical global issue of sustainable peaceful coexistence. As a part of our work, we'll promote the spirit of patriotism, but tolerance for other cultures and nations among young people. And, of course, a large section will be devoted to disseminating and implementing peacekeeping ideas in Ukraine and Kyiv. The Museum of Peace is created on a voluntary basis. Currently, the museum has sections dedicated to Nobel Peace Prize winners, the Olympic Games, and UN and OSCE peacekeeping operations.
"Everyone dreams of peace, but why do wars persist on Earth?" — this question has haunted humanity for centuries. Scientists, politicians, and philosophers alike seek the answer. In the heart of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, which is currently enduring incredibly difficult times, operates a unique institution: the **Ukrainian Peace Museum**. Founded on September 21, 2021, on the International Day of Peace, the museum has become a hub for stories about the struggle for harmony and the individuals who have dedicated their lives to this noble cause.
The museum's exhibits detail the lives and achievements of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, UN and OSCE peacekeeping missions, and historical documents that testify to humanity's enduring quest for peace.
Core Principles of the Museum
The concept of the Peace Museum is built upon the following pillars:
A platform for seeking pathways to establishing peace.
Promoting the idea of building a peaceful society.
Researching the philosophy of conflict: why countries go to war despite a universal desire for peace.
Demonstrating the peace-loving nature of Ukraine.
Advancing peacekeeping ideals globally, including the principles and foundations of peacekeeping units.
Organizing various forms of aid to help establish peace in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Role and Modern Challenges
With the onset of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the museum’s mission has become even more urgent. New exhibitions tell the story of the modern Ukrainian struggle for freedom and independence, the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the war, and those who are bringing victory closer.
The museum does not merely preserve history; it actively shapes the future. Through interactive displays, educational programs, and volunteer initiatives, it nurtures a new generation of Ukrainians who value peace and are prepared to defend it. Children and youth can learn about the root causes of conflict, peaceful dispute resolution, and leadership skills.
Future Horizons and International Reach
Despite the ongoing war, the museum continues to evolve. Plans include the creation of a Peace House, the expansion of exhibits, and the hosting of international conferences. The museum aims to become not just a national site, but a global center for discussing peace and security. To promote these ideas abroad, several thematic exhibitions have already been held in countries such as France, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Specialized Branches
The Museum of the Volunteers Movement of Ukraine (opened Feb 2023): This branch collects items handcrafted by volunteers, including camouflage nets, "ghillie" suits, balaclavas, trench candles, traditional amulets, and children’s drawings.
The Museum of UN Peacekeeping Operations (opened July 2024): This branch focuses on materials related to peacekeeping missions involving Ukrainian personnel.
A Call to Action
The Ukrainian Peace Museum is more than just a collection of artifacts. It is a place where new ideas are born and where the consciousness of future generations is formed. It is a place where faith in peace is transformed into action.
