Luther Anderson (right front) lead their squad down a steep hill as they begin a 1,500-yard advance toward another hill northwest of the Ch’ongch’on River, North Korea, Nov. 20, 1950. Five days later, Chinese communist forces attacked, decimating the 2nd Inf. Div. and forcing a retreat back to South Korea. Ultimately, the Chinese intervention meant the war ended in a stalemate and an armistice that continues to this day. During the Korean War, Soldiers also started serving in combat in integrated units for the first time.
